Dear All

I am a happy girl. My Humira finally arrived today after 8 weeks of waiting. As I was previously on Enbrel and know how to inject, I presume it will be o.k. for me to start on the Humira without having a nurse visit me. Do they visit to show you how to inject or see if you get a reaction with your first time on this drug? I am quite happy to go ahead with injecting myself but something is nagging in the back of my mind that maybe I should wait? I really want to inject tomorrow night so that I can spend the rest of the weekend recovering if needs be. I will be lucky if I can get hold of someone in my Rheumy Department before the weekend but will give it a try.

On a lighter note - hurray the weather is cooler!! Sorry for all you sun loving people but it made me feel very poorly and my joints feel better today without the heavy air pressure.

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

When I started on Humira I had already been on a trial for it so knew how to inject. I told them this when they offered to send the nurse so it was fine with them and I just got on with it myself.
I think the nurse comes purely to show you how to inject, so it should be ok for you to just get on with it.
Good luck, hope it works well for you.

Love, Doreen xx

Thanks Doreen

Just had phone call from Nurse!! She said if I know how to inject they do not need to visit. Will give it a go tomorrow night and see what happens.

Take care.

Hope the Humira works for you, jackie. It was the other way round for me, Humira didn't work, but Enbrel has!

Well I've done it - first Humira injection - well I think I have. It was so much easier than the Enbrel pen but I am not sure if it gave me the full dose. I decided to do it in my stomach for the first time, more fat BigGrin and pressed the button and it went off so easily I forgot to hold the button in. I used to struggle with the Enbrel pen taking ages for it to actually activate. I drew blood and the yellow marker was in the window but was not right at the end of the window so not sure if it should be and if it all went in.

I am now sitting in bed with a large bar of chocolate as consolation. It was so painless in my stomach after doing the Enbrel pen in my thigh , that I thought I had better keep up the fat roll around my stomachBigGrin My Husband said he would come upstairs and check on me periodically and if I was dead he would remember to call an ambulanceRollEyes

I have taken my Methotrexate tonight as well, and it is also cooler, so I am hoping to enjoy a big long sleep.

Hi Jackie,

So glad your first Humira injection has been easy for you lets hope you get the results you are hoping for. Chocolate is always a good consolation, I am about to take my MTX I hate taking that each Saturday night but hey it keeps me well so I have to be grateful it works for me. Smile Good luck with future doses, Lorna xx

Hi Jackie,

So glad it's final happened and you're not dead Smile

When I was taking Humira, I was never sure I'd done it right either Smile and definitely found it less painful in the tummy rather than the thigh.

Hope it goes really well and you're pain free in no time!!
